The QLA Pineapples are a registered not-for-profit team of Grace Lutheran College and St. Peters Lutheran College high school students in years 8-12 who work together to build a new robot each year to compete in the FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC). The competition is held by FIRST International and is designed to inspire young people and introduce them to the world of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
Each year, FIRST releases a game with specific rules and a goal to complete. The teams are then given 6 weeks to design, build and program this robot to compete against robots from other teams around the world. The Pineapples work with volunteer mentors who provide their industry and research experience to help guide the team.
During the rest of the year the team meets once a week to learn new skills, such as mechanical design, programming, shop skills and project management. These skills help the team design and build the best robot possible in the short 6 weeks available.
